How it all began!
I thought it was about time we introduced ourselves and told our story!
Lets go back to the Christmas of 2013 and a book I received titled, how to open a coffee- tea shop. I read it from front to back, opened my laptop and wrote my business plan!
As a child I have so many happy memories of drinking tea with my family and nearly all time it was loose leaf tea. Back then I didn't think anything of it, but now loose leaf tea seemed to be a something of a novelty and not readily available. I researched tea and my word I couldn't believe how many different varieties there are, from all around the world and how each area produces a different taste. How herbs, spices and petals are added to create amazingly aromatic teas, the process of making tea by drying, rolling, withering the leaves. the humble cup of tea is definitely a labour of love.
I knew Teaspoon tea company had to be all loose leaf and we wanted to make it the main focus of our business and our mission.
I left my job first, one that I loved and had enjoyed working at for nearly 20 years. I was a sales manager, selling homewares and soft furnishings and the thought of leaving me job frightened me to death, but deep down I knew it was the right thing to do. Sometimes you have to take the leap and try something new and I was determined to make this change. My husband Lance joined after a year, leaving his sales position and with a little van, went to local markets and fairs selling our loose leaf tea. Seeing our bags walking down the street made my heart sing and still does, that people choose to visit us and spend their hard earned money is something I will never take for granted.
Over the years we have continued to change the business to meet customers needs, take on more staff, make long lasting friendships and become a fixture on Grantham's High Street.
We have 2 children, that I hope we are inspiring them to follow their dreams and know that if they put their mind to it, they can achieve anything. The work / home balance struggle is real but we are a team and can often be found all in the shop.
Who knows what the future holds but doing what we love gives us the best chance of success.
